Collins Earthworks of Nottinghamshire has taken delivery of its first 8x4 Volvo tractor unit.
The 8x4 joins a fleet of Volvo FH tractor units (6x2 and 6x4s) that operate on heavy haulage works.
The company’s new flagship is an FH16-750 Globetrotter XL tractor unit, with Crawler gearbox and gears, and a pusher Tridem prime chassis.
Inside the Globetrotter XL cab, are twin bunks, built in satellite navigation and leather seats.
The decision to order the FH was made after a demonstration from Hartshorne Motor Services.
Matt Smith, low loader manager at Collins Earthworks said: "We were gifted, or should I say wrangled, the demonstration vehicle for a day, then two months later we used it for a full fortnight.
"That really sold the big Volvo to us and this newcomer won't be the last FH16-750 8x4 tractor unit we have.”
