Following the successful launch of its first tipper trailer with a 57cu m capacity, Dutch company D-TEC has developed a new version specifically designed for the scrap metal market.

Group director for D-TEC is Gerrit van Vlastuin, who is also a director at Trailer-Tec, which has a sales site in the UK. He explained its design: “It is all about the ease of unloading. Scrap metal slides out the trailer very quickly, so we do not want anything to stop that. We have steel barn doors that open out, and the body is a funnel shape that is 6mm wider at the rear. To stiffen the torsion through the chassis we have designed it with cross-members at 45 degrees.”

The trailer weighs 6.7 tonnes on a goose frame (swan neck) chassis. It’s fitted with Hyva tipping gear, a manual cover sheet, and SAF Holland axles with drum brakes. Van Vlastuin added: “The sidewalls are 4mm thick around the bottom and 3mm thick higher up. We use SSAB (Svenskt Stål AB) Hardox 450 steel and use SSAB Hardox 400 for trailers that work with acidic substances.”
