Collaboration is key when it comes to developing electric trucks, at least whilst the technology is still in its infancy. This was the message from Ben Garner, Tarmac’s senior manager logistics development, when he talked to Commercial Motor editor Will Shiers about the company’s new zero-tailpipe-emission concrete mixer in the latest Torquing Trucks podcast episode.
The Renault E-Tech D is the product of a joint venture between Tarmac, Renault Trucks and TVS Interfleet McPhee Mixers. It was three years in the making, and includes a number of innovative productivity and safety-enhancing features. Not only will they be used on future battery-powered trucks, but some will also make their way onto diesel-powered mixers too.
The truck, which is based at Tarmac’s Birmingham Asphalt Plant, has just undergone a three-month real-world trial, with owner operator Michael Henry behind the wheel.
In a few weeks we’ll be running an in-depth Spotlight feature on the mixer in Commercial Motor magazine, where we will reveal all of the details from the three parties involved in this innovative new truck. But before then you can learn about the trials and tribulations of developing and operating a zero-tailpipe-emission concrete mixer from Ben Garner in the podcast. It’s free to listen to, and can be found on most platforms, including Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
- Renault Trucks and TVS Interfleet will both be exhibiting at this year’s Road Transport Expo, which takes place at Stoneleigh NAEC on June 28-30. It’s FREE to attend, and registrations are now open.
