Volkswagen (VW) has published the first official images of its new Crafter, which is set to be unveiled at the IAA Hannover motor show in September.

Conceived as the big brother of the Transporter, VW claimed a class-leading 0.33 drag coefficient. New models are expected to continue to occupy the 3- to 5-tonne weight category.

Power will come from a 2-litre engine engineered to meet Euro-6 emissions standards. Expect power outputs from around 110hp to as much as 180hp.

Following the announcement of its split from Mercedes-Benz, which manufactures the current Crafter on behalf of VW, a new production facility has been built in Wrzesnia, Poland, with a €2bn (£1.7bn) investment in the project.

The new Crafter is due to go on sale later this year.
