Fraikin has launched an HGV technician apprenticeship scheme at five of its maintenance depots in England and Scotland.
Dubbed the Heavy Vehicle Apprenticeship Programme, the course will accept applications every two years to study for the Institute of the Motor Industry’s three-year, Level 3 standard.
The first placements are due to commence in January 2021 at its Iver, Enfield, Central Midlands, Warrington and Glasgow branches. The company described the starting salary as “competitive” and said it would increase during the course and into a final consolidation year, after which attendees can join the business as a fully qualified HGV technician.
Fraikin has previously employed apprenticeship schemes in other areas, such as team leadership and business development but this is the first time a programme has been introduced for truck technicians.
“This apprenticeship programme is designed to build on the DNA of the business, developing the skills and capabilities of our engineering workforce from the ground up,” said group talent and learning director Ant Perfect. “In partnership with colleges across the UK, the classroom element of the course will work in conjunction with more hands-on experience at each apprentice’s local maintenance depot, where they will work with some of the best technicians in the business.
