“After 20 year in this industry, it still continues to amaze me how great it is in times of crisis,” said Richard Morson, CEO at Bibby Distribution, commenting on the effects of COVID-19 on the sector.

He explained that Bibby Distribution is incredibly busy at the moment, comparing it to the lead-up to Christmas. “A lot of what we do is food and associated food products, like packaging and ingredients going into food,” he said. “We are also flexing resource between industrial and manufacturing customers, who maybe quieter, moving it over to support retail.”

Morson told CM that a handful of Bibby drivers are currently self-isolating, but as yet there are no reported cases of its drivers contracting the virus.

“We are taking great positivity from the government’s classification of distribution and logistics workers, which will have a big impact next week [when schools close]. So we are hoping we don’t lose any of the workforce to looking after kids,” he said.
