Triple Commercial Motor Awards winner, independent maintenance provider Waldron Commercials, located near Tredegar in South Wales, reports that it’s still open, even if it’s not quite business as usual. Its first task was to obtain the required key worker documentation from its customers in the food supply chains and public utilities to allow it to stay operational. The workforce has been divided into two shifts, segregated to reduce the risk of everyone getting infected at the same time.

While some of its customers have had to park up their fleets, others are diversifying their business to accommodate the needs of the country and Waldron Commercials is making sure that all the trucks are compliant. It’s biggest concern is the closure of its ATF lane. Partner Katy Waldron says “Some of our customers only use us to carry out the MOT work, so a valuable income stream has gone for the next 3 months.”

She adds “I have managed to secure repayment holidays on our finances, so that the downturn in work and late payments from customers also affected, will have a lessening impact on our cashflow. I am prioritising our staff’s wages to ensure that they are able to support their families at this uncertain time.”

Within the local community, Waldron Commercials has helped put together some learning packs to cover different year groups and delivered them to the local area. It has also offered to use its own artic and staff to help local supermarkets to help keep the shelves filled. Katy Waldron sums up “Very strange times indeed, however we will do whatever it takes to keep the country moving.”
