London operator Gowing and Pursey has begun a partnership with Mercedes-Benz after a relationship breakdown with its previous manufacturer.

The skip hire and waste management company, based in Park Royal, has taken delivery of 20 18-tonne Arocs skip-loaders.

Gowing and Pursey manager Noel Ward said: "The Arocs are flying, the drivers love them and not one of the trucks has missed a beat.

Mercedes-Benz is in a different league when it comes to the all-round quality of its products, and their suitability for the job.”

The operator said it had chosen the Arocs for its manoeuvrability in a congested London environment.

MD Charlie Ward said: “Given that we work in such a congested area, we’ve specified the skip-loaders with the shortest, 3.6m wheelbase, so they’re highly manoeuvrable.

"The automated Mercedes PowerShift transmission gets top marks – not only is it very smooth but it’s also safer than the manual gearboxes the lads were using previously, because it leaves them free to concentrate on the road rather than worrying about which gear they’re in.”
