Hawkins Logistics has put three new Volvo FH500 6x2s into service, all three featuring different liveries and Globetrotter XL cabs.
Two have been fitted with Volvo’s standard I-Shift automated transmission, with the remaing FH features the I-Shift Dual Clutch.
Managing director Paul Hawkins said that the reasoning behind opting for both gearboxes is to compare them and see which is better for the busines.
“The Dual Clutch isn’t as good on the fuel economy when compared to the 11mpg we get from the standard gearbox", he said.”But on the other hand the Dual Clutch makes for faster shifts which is good for when drivers need to be more efficient with heavier loads. For this trial we’ve used Volvo's Dynafleet Fleet Management System to compare all the data which will decide our future truck specifications.”
Supplied by Hartshorne Motor Services, the trucks are specified to recognise driver loyalty. Hawkins said: “We always spec up the interiors with leather, fridge/freezers, microwave ovens and televisions. Driver feedback on the FH is also good.
“We get very good service from our dealers, Hartshorne Motor Services, who work hard to solve any issues quickly and efficiently.”
