Hermes UK is adding another 70 CNG trucks to its fleet.
The new arrivals will bring the total number of compressed natural gas vehicles to 160 units, nearly half of the company’s core tractor fleet.
The order is for Iveco S-Way tractor units and follows the recent announcement that Hermes will be one of the first companies to trial a 12-tonne CNG version of the Iveco Eurocargo. The S-Ways will reduces CO2 emissions by more than 80%, compared to a Euro 6 diesel vehicle, a reduction of 150 tonnes of CO2 per vehicle per year.
Hermes’ use of alternative fuels makes it the largest UK parcel company fleet to employ CNG vehicles and is bettered only by retailer John Lewis and Partners.

As such we were an early adopter of CNG as an alternative fuel and are continuing to increase its presence in our fleet, to drive down emissions,” explained David Landy, Hermes’ head of fleet.
