Hydrogen Vehicle Systems (HVS) has confirmed the operating range of its new hydrogen-electric truck.
The eagerly anticipated HGV will unveiled at the Commercial Vehicle show in mid-April and is claimed to have a range of up to 370 miles.
HVS CEO Jawad Khursheed said: “Thanks to the fresh thinking and ground-up approach, HVS has created an HGV that offers the complete package of game-changing technology and driver ergonomics. The state-of-the-art fuel cell stack coupled with the best in the industry hydrogen tanks ensures rapid refuelling times and maximises time on the road – delivering unrivalled total cost of ownership to our customers.”
HVS’ vehicle powertrain employs a fuel cell system and energy storage system to deploy electricity to an electric motor to transmit power to the wheels. It uses a KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) to recapture energy under braking and when slowing down.
Depending on the payload, route, road conditions and driving style – HVS’ claims the pressurise hydrogen tanks will have capacity for as much as 600km (370 miles) with refuelling possible in around 15-20 minutes.
