North Yorkshire family haulier J C & I Walton have taken delivery of one of the first second generation V8 Scania's to arrive in the UK.

The first Scania the company bought was in 1982 and this is the sixteenth Scania in the company's 43 year history having previously ran various makes from AEC, Leyland, Mercedes, Ford, Dodge Bedford and Volvo.

Company partner Alastair Walton said the S580 was purchased on strength of reliability, residual value, convenient dealer location and three year R&M warranty being a major factor of the purchase.

He added that the 6x2 tag axle 2.9m wheelbase layout was ideal for the type of work the haulier undertook, which involves delivering to farm and building sites nationwide.

The truck will pull flat and tautliner trailers averaging 140,000kms a year with the V8 580 power plant and Opticruise transmission helping to achieve good journey times and maximising productively. He said that the flat floor of the interior, along with a fridge and microwave, gave it driver appeal.
