German manufacturer Kögel Trailers is to enter the UK and Ireland markets.
The company, which is Europe’s third largest trailer and body producer, said it will initially target UK operators working in international haulage that are already familiar with the company’s products.
Thomas Eschey, Kögel production and technology MD, said he is “aware of the challenge that lies ahead in tackling the UK and Ireland marketplaces”.
But he added that the company’s presence in France, Italy, Spain and Portugal, where it has a significant share of the respective trailer and bodies markets and its existing deals with companies including bulk shipper CLdN and P&O, will help it.
Kögel plans to build an aftersales network in the UK, which it sees as a key component to gaining “significant market penetration”.
The company, which is based in Burtenbach in Germany plans to include products from its sister brand Humbaur once it has established a foothold.
Humbaur offers items ranging from LCV bodies and fittings to specialist plant and machinery carriage.
Kögel and Humbaur will be exhibiting their latest products at the IAA Hannover show this September.
