Econ Engineering is supplying 33 vehicles to three different contractors tasked with keeping London’s streets free from snow and ice.

Ringway, which was awarded the central contract by TfL, has purchased 11 brand-new trucks, a mix of nine DAF LF 4x2s, a DAF CF 6x4 and a Dennis Eagle 4x2. All are supplied on eight-year R&M contracts.

A Tarmac and Kier joint venture, which won the north contract, is hiring 13 gritters through Econ’s own contract hire fleet services. The trucks, which will be run on HVO, consist of eight DAF LF 4x2s, four Mercedes-Benz Arocs 6x4s and a 4.2-tonne Mercedes Sprinter.

Meanwhile, south contract winner FM Conway, has hired nine DAF LF and CF gritters.

Jonathan Lupton from Econ Engineering, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen by all three TfL contractors as their winter maintenance vehicle partner of choice. This is a significant contract award for us and demonstrates our standing within the highways and transports sector.

“In addition to selling gritters, we also have an extensive hire fleet, and two of the three TfL framework contractors have chosen to go down this route.”
