Delivery specialist Panther Logistics has ordered 22 MAN TGL 7.5-tonners to meet increased demand for online shopping and as part of a fleet replacement programme. They will be followed by 35 MAN TGX trucks before the end of the year – an order totalling £1.1m.

The vehicles will be based out of the operator’s Gateshead, Preston, Northampton, Warrington, and Castleford sites, and used for collections and deliveries. They are fitted with forward-, rear- and side-facing live cameras with playback for accident management monitoring and said to be more economical than the trucks they replace.

The company was recently acquired by AIT Worldwide Logistics and is expanding after demand for delivery of non-essential items rose during the pandemic – a trend it says is continuing.

“As consumers have spent more time at home, driving up the demand for non-essential items, [we have] looked to find ways to support growth, build sustainability and improve customer experience in order to sufficiently cater to this unprecedented spike,” said logistics director, Guy Burgess.

“This investment will help meet increased demand as consumer buying habits continue to shift towards online purchasing.”
