Motward has celebrated 40 years in business with the purchase of a Volvo FH16-750 tractor unit, which is also a tribute to the company’s former boss Jason Tolhurst.

The Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire-based pallet distributor and wood waste recycler ordered the Globetrotter XL shortly before MD Jason was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

He died before seeing the vehicle in operation.

Supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia, the truck features portraits of Motward’s founder, and Jason’s dad, Ken Tolhurst, plus grandfather Charlie.

The show truck, painted by Matt Paint, was also given a considerable makeover by custom truck specialists Tranz Tech in Wisbech.

Andrew Armiger, transport manager at Motward, said: “We’ve had Volvos since 1995, they are good, reliable trucks. We particularly like the latest version FH.”

Although Jason did not get to see the truck in all its glory, he saw photographs of the finished product.

“He was so happy with the outcome, it was even better than he expected. He just didn’t get to see it in the flesh,” said Armiger.
