MV Commercial has revealed a new Volvo FH 6x4 tractor developed in partnership with Hiab, which has fitted its X-HIPRO 858 crane onto a chassis which features a 34mm lower sub-frame when compared to a standard design.
Built in MV Commercial’s base, at Airdrie, it claims the new design doesn’t compromise on weight, performance or stability, while offering operators a reduced coupling height and increased lifting capacity over the rear legs.
Scott Bishop, project development manager, said: “Delivering a lower sub-frame that provides stability without increasing the weight has been a significant challenge – but together with Hiab, we’ve achieved it and developed an entirely new truck configuration”.
MV Commercial’s spokesperson, Kevin Myer, told Commercial Motor: “We already have a number of big name clients who have booked theirs”, with the new FH the “ideal combo for the cabin or container industry, but any client looking for the 34mm improvement would be keen.”
With MV Commercial’s collaboration with Hiab on the Volvo FH having proved successful, Myer said the two continue to work together on the design to continually improve the concept, the next step being to reduce the tare weight still further. Eight of the new units are currently in production.
