With its previous focus on fuel saving having been applied to its long-haul transport products, Michelin has introduced a new range of tyres dedicated to economy in the regional haulage sector.

The Michelin X Multi Energy range will replace the X MultiWay 3D. Compared with the predecessor, Michelin says simulations have shown a saving of 1.2 litres per 100km with no loss of potential life.

The new X Multi Energy is being introduced by the major truck OEMs, and is available on the replacement market with immediate effect, with all-round fitment and drive axle patterns the popular 315/70 R22.5 size.

Michelin’s UK and Ireland B2B sales director, Chris Smith, said: “This new X Multi Energy is a first for Michelin, and operators in the UK and Ireland are ideally positioned to benefit from it given that regional haulage accounts for a significant proportion of all on-road missions.

"It gives regional hauliers and own-account operators a clear choice dependent on their preference for tyre longevity or fuel saving. This launch means regional operators can now make a clear choice in favour of fuel saving and CO2 reduction. Our larger customers tell us this is becoming increasingly important as most tender documents and contracts are demanding a low CO2 operation”
