Daimler Trucks gave the Next Generation Fuso eCanter its European premier at the IAA.

The latest version features an eAxle, which integrates the motor with the rear axle, resulting in a more compact drivetrain, so freeing-up space on the chassis for batteries. This allows for a new modular battery concept, with three options according to wheelbase - S, M and L. These are equipped with one, two or three 41.3kWh batteries, with maximum ranges of 70km, 140km and 200km respectively.

In addition to the current 7.5-tonne GVW, the latest eCanter will be available as a 4.25- and 8.55-tonner. There is a wider cab too, which at 1,955mm, is 300mm greater than the standard one. The range of wheelbases on offer has also been expanded.

Karl Deppen, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, said: “Since we launched the truck [in 2017], customers have been giving us invaluable feedback. One major request we heard again and again was the need for more versatility and more applications. There are 28 variants for the Japanese market and approximately 80 variants for overseas markets.”

Sales of Next Generation Fuso eCanter will commence in the UK in Q1 2023, with series production beginning later in the year.
