Aylestone Transport has taken delivery of a Volvo FM 540 6x2 tractor unit.
Supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre South & East, the truck has been tailored for its partnership with Charcon, the commercial hard landscaping division of Aggregate Industries. Its primary role will involve transporting slabs and kerbs to London.
Commenting on the new arrival, which is backed by a 10-year three-star Direct Vision Standard permit, Aylestone Transport MD 'Bodge' Aylestone Ward, said: "Our loyalty to Volvo spans many years, making it the prime candidate for our latest addition. Volvo Trucks stands out in terms of performance and reliability, which is underscored by the robust resale value our older models maintain."
In a departure from the Leicestershire-based haulier’s traditional blue and white company colours, the vehicle is finished in Charcon's green, white, and orange livery. The exterior is enhanced further with Kelsa colour-matched light bars, Lazer lights, beacons, side skirts, and Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels.
The Globetrotter cab is complemented by a variety of packages, including Drive++, which adds dual armrests for both seats and an adjustable steering wheel with neck tilt. The driver's seat is heated, and ventilated, and other creature comforts include a microwave and a 30-litre fridge.
Volvo's Media package with navigation enhances the driving experience with a dynamic 12in high-resolution instrument cluster accompanied by an additional colour information display and DAB radio.
Volvo’s Long Haul Fuel package incorporates I-See predictive cruise control. Visibility is enhanced by Volvo’s signature V-shaped LED headlights, which adapt to ambient light, along with rain-sensing windscreen wipers and electrically heated rear-view mirrors – all part of the Visibility+ package.
Incorporating advanced safety features, the truck includes Forward Collision Warning, advanced emergency braking, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Support, and adaptive cruise control systems.
The truck, which is paired with an SDC trailer equipped with Aylestone’s inaugural Palfinger crane, will cover an estimated 100,000km per annum. It is supported by a Volvo Blue Contract that encompasses preventative maintenance.
