Prestons of Potto has upped its Mercedes-Benz Actros fleet to 12 after the first eight vehicles delivered significant fuel savings.

The four tractors will arrive at the North Yorkshire-based firm in the next few weeks from dealer Bell Truck and Van, joining eight Actros tractors which were delivered to firm in the first half of last year.

The12-strong fleet, which are fitted with BigSpace cabs and come with 330kW (450hp) straight-six engines, will be used to haul steel and construction materials across the UK.

MD David Preston said the vehicles are already exceeding fleet averages on fuel consumption , averaging 9mpg on fully laden trucks operating across rough terrain in December. “To put it in context, the average figure across the fleet in the same period was 7.97 mpg,” he added.

After sales support and driver opinion on comfort and performance were also key factors in the company’s decision, said Preston.

“The cab comfort and road manners of the Actros have gone down extremely well with our drivers, even those who have previously been confirmed fans of rival brands.”
