Riverside Truck Rental, part of NRG Fleet Services, has invested over £1m in its first 18 refrigerated vehicles, consisting of three 7.5-tonne and three 13-tonne Isuzu rigids, six 18-tonne DAFs and six 26-tonne IVECOs.

Located in Skelmersdale, Lancashire, the firm revealed that the new investment came in response to customer demand for a rental fleet of refrigerated vehicles.

All have been specified with Carrier Transicold refrigeration systems. The Isuzu N75 150s and F13 240s feature Xarios 600 refrigeration units fitted to Gray & Adams bodies, while the DAF LF 230 4x2s and IVECO Stralis 330 6x2s are fitted with its Supra 1150 MT systems mounted to Paneltex bodies.

The Xarios units mounted to the Isuzus have been chosen due to their multi-drop potential as they are able to maintain temperatures

Riverside Truck Rental’s Supra systems fitted to the larger vehicles are “able to provide constant airflow, independent of engine speed, offering operators rapid pull-down and accurate multi-temperature set point control”.

The flexible Supra units supply consistent frozen and chilled performance, “making them the ideal choice for high intensity delivery schedules” Carrier Transicold explained.

National rental manager for NRG Fleet Services Paul Evans, said: “We went with the Isuzus and IVECOs because we thought they were the best in class. The DAFs were purchased based off of existing relationships we had with the dealers, and the trucks themselves are good products.”

As for the reason behind opting for Carrier Transicold units, Evans explained that the company has “been working with Carrier for many years on behalf of our contract hire customers, so we knew we would be getting the quality, reliability and service support we needed for this new venture”.

The new trucks will carry out operations nationwide, operating out of six depots including Glasgow and Essex. Evan’s said: “As these are rental vehicles, they can conceivably end up operating anywhere, so having access to the largest national service network of any transport refrigeration equipment provider gives us the confidence we can deliver the best possible service to our customers.”
