Motherwell-based haulier Sam Anderson (Newhouse) is expanding its fleet after it won a contract to be the sole transport provider for Liberty House Group’s steel interests in Scotland.
Sam Anderson (Newhouse) - which is part of the Anderson Group that also includes Mercedes-Benz dealership Northside Truck & Van – is adding 20 Actros units to the fleet as part of what it describes as “growing demand for the company’s services as it continues to bid for more transportation contracts across Scotland”.
Liberty House bought the Dalzell steelworks in Motherwell in April 2016, following its closure by Tata in December 2015. The plant has a full production capacity of between 400,000 and 500,000 tonnes a year.
Robert Smith (above, pictured left with former Anderson Group chairman Fergus Leitch), general manager for transport at the firm said: “Winning the Liberty House Group contract has been a great boost for the company and the investment in these trucks, and more units in the near future, indicates our commitment to the transportation sector in Scotland.
“I believe that there is considerable potential growth in transportation over the next few years and Sam Anderson’s will be at the forefront in pitching for this work. The continuation of steel production is extremely important for the wider Scottish economy and the Anderson Group is delighted to be part of the continuation of this important and historic industry,” Smith added.
The Anderson Group has also seen some management changes following the retirement of chairman Fergus Leitch, and chief executive Irvine Anderson moving into Leitch’s former role.
Tim Ward, MD of Northside Truck and Van, takes up the position of group chief executive, while Ben Sowersby, previously the sales director at Northside, becomes MD of the dealership.
