Commercial pump specialist Selwood has added six new DAF CFs to its multi-axle rigid fleet.
The trucks, supplied by Lancashire DAF in Preston, consist of five 6x2 rear-steer 26-tonners and a four-axle 8x2 rear-steer.
Selwood is a global industrial pump manufacturer and pump rental provider, with headquarters in Hampshire and 25 locations across the UK. It also supplies plant and equipment for sale and hire to the construction sector.
The business said it selected DAF due to positive in-service experience and excellent feedback from drivers of existing fleet models.
The new 410hp DAF CF eight-wheeler joins three existing four-axle rigids – all sporting DAF’s ‘FAX’ 8x2 axle configuration, which the company describes as “offering an ideal low-profile flat-bed platform”.
Selwood’s new additions feature beavertail and flatbed bodywork from PPS Commercials in Bury, with three of the 26-tonne 6x2 CFs equipped with cranes supplied by Hiab.
“We’re seeing better productivity returns from the eight-wheelers,” said Selwood’s head of transport, Paul Green. “The higher carrying capacity coupled with excellent manoeuvrability means the DAF ‘FAX’ set-up is ideal for our operation.”
He added that the company’s drivers “are really enthusiastic too”.
“The 370bhp engines on the 26-tonners represent a boost in power over our previous truck-brand, which they appreciate.
This latest order follows a similar, earlier tranche of new DAFs joining the fleet, which now comprises 55 HGVs, 171 LCVs and 127 cars.
“We’re impressed with the DAF product and the aftersales support, hence the increasing presence on our fleet,” said Green.
“We’re especially pleased with the back-up from Lancashire DAF. They’re always on hand to help with any issues.”
The inclusion of this DAF order brings the total of Euro-6 compliant trucks in the Selwood fleet to 95%, which it said will help the business comply with various clean air zones across the UK.
