FSW Storage & Distribution has taken delivery of three new Mercedes-Benz Actros BigSpace 2551 to work on its 16-strong truck fleet.
Two of the units are replacements while one is an addition required to accommodate an increase in demand for the Oldbury-based haulier whose current fleet is made up of five tractor units and 11 rigids with a combination of 26- and 18-tonners. All but one vehicle, a six-wheeled curtainsider are Mercedes trucks.
Supplied by Midlands Truck & Van, the new units will be double-shifted, making collections and deliveries in and around Birmingham and the Black Country during the day, and then trunking at night to the United Pallet Network hub in Lichfield.
“They’ll start work early on a Monday and won’t go cold again until Saturday morning,” director Stuart Fuller explained.
As well as the standard Actros equipment including Active Brake Assist 5 and Mirrorcam, the trucks have been fitted with chrome Kelsa light bars, Jost sliding fifth wheels and camera systems by SM UK Midlands, of Tamworth.
“We’ve pushed the boat out with these latest Actros, and made a bit of a feature of them to create a good impression so that customers can see how the company is progressing,” said Fuller.
“Also, of course, they should help us to retain drivers and attract new ones. The feedback so far has been entirely positive – the guys love the trucks, and particularly the new dashboard,” he added.
The trucks will run on a five-year Mercedes-Benz Complete Service Contracts and will be inspected and maintained at dealerships in Smethwick and Wolverhampton.
