Uptons Transport Services takes delivery of its first Schmitz Cargobull trailer

Uptons Transport Services has put its first Schmitz Cargobull semi-trailer on the road.

The new S.CS Fixed Roof curtainsider, which is manufactured at Schmitz Cargobull’s Manchester factory, has been purchased outright and joins a fleet of 10 trailers, pulled by a mix of DAF and Renault tractor units.

“I am very impressed with the build quality and I’m delighted to have one on my fleet,” said director of Uptons Transport Services Phil Upton. “I have felt very supported by the team who have kept me informed with everything throughout the entire process.”

The trailer, which complies with DIN EN 12642 Code XL load security regulations, has been built on the manufacturer’s modular chassis. Schmitz Cargobull claims that this provides additional strength with well-distributed load and optimised weight. Additionally, the modular bolt-on, bolt-off design means the S.CS Fixed Roof is easy to repair if necessary. It also comes with a 10-year warranty against rust-through.

The semi-trailer features two sliding posts and 18 buckles, aiding both loading and unloading. Meanwhile, steel wires incorporated into the curtain provide anti-theft protection. Uptons Transport Services also specified a water tank, which provides fresh water for the driver when needed.  

The trailer will be based at the firm’s Birmingham depot, and will be used up to six days a week. It will clock-up an anticipated 1.6 million km during the 10 years it is expected to remain on the fleet.

Phil Upton founded Uptons Transport Services in 1977. It now delivers refrigerated and dry freight goods to UK supermarkets, as well as transporting ISO containers.
