The new Volkswagen Crafter will make its UK debut at the CV Show this year.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, which returned to the show last year after a five-year absence, will have a standard panel Crafter on its stand, as well as a left-hand drive dropside model.
VW is taking orders for the new Crafter, which comes with a 2-litre TDI engine developed specifically for the van. A single turbocharged unit will provide 101hp, 121hp and 138hp, while a bi-turbo engine will provide 174hp.
The Crafters come with a standard 6-speed manual transition gearbox. However, for the more powerful vehicles in the range, VW offers an optional 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox to manage the 410Nm of torque they produce.
The first UK deliveries of the Crafters are expected in May, beginning with front-wheel-drive panel vans, with the available range expanding during the year.
VW will also debut its e-load Up! compact electric van at the show. An offshoot of the Up! car at just 3.6m in length, the vehicle offers up to 990 litres of volume and a 360kg payload.
VW said it has no plans to sell the vehicle in the UK, but that it is bringing a German model to the show to sound out potential buyers’ responses and investigate whether there is a market for the e-load Up! in the UK.
The manufacturer will also display its core range of models at the CV Show.
- Registration is now open for the CV Show, which takes place at the NEC, Birmingham, between 26 and 28 April.
