Asahi UK has added a Volvo FE Electric to its fleet. Based out of Fuller’s Griffin Brewery, the FE Electric will be used for distribution across London. Supplied by Guili Chemello, transport solutions executive at Volvo Truck and Bus South and East, the electric truck has entered service in place of a similar diesel truck.
Sam Goodenough, sustainability manager, Asahi UK said: “We’re thrilled to partner with Volvo Trucks as we take delivery of our first electric brewery dray truck, a significant milestone in our journey towards our goal of net zero across our whole value chain by 2040.
“Our FE Electric will be one of the first of its kind to enter London, demonstrating the potential of electric drays to create quieter streets, support the city’s clean air initiatives and build a more sustainable future for the communities we serve. Working with Volvo on this project helps us to ensure we can continue to deliver our premium products to London’s pubs in a way that supports both our business and the planet.”
Asahi’s Volvo FE Electric is fitted with three batteries to offer a range of up to 230km on a single charge. Two electric motors deliver power to the wheels and the system uses a two-speed transmission. The truck features Bevan Group bodywork with a cantilever tail lift. On the nearside, the FE has a lower window to improve direct vision. This vehicle has a three-star DVS rating for safe operation in the capital as well as Volvo’s suite of safety assistance systems.
Inside, the cab features a heated seat with adjustable lumbar support and an extendable seat cushion, DAB radio, climate control and heated windscreen. Asahi opted for a Volvo Gold repair and maintenance contract and intends to keep the truck on fleet for around seven years.
