WJ North has purchased its first ever brand-new street sweeper, having always purchased second hand vehicles for the job. The Volvo FM-460, which has a 4.3m wheelbase and is plated at 18 tonnes GVW, was supplied by Thomas Hardie Commercials.

The FM-460 is fitted with a 13-litre, 460hp engine with I-Shift automated gearbox as well as Dynafleet telematics – which on top of tracking the vehicle produces environmental reports for WJ North. It also is fitted with five external cameras, including side scan and a 360° camera and Vision Techniques Banksman Plus reversing sensors.

Scott Logan, group transport manager at WJ North said that the driver of the FM-460 will spend between two and three weeks at a time away from its base, working as part of a three truck team on road marking projects across the UK.

“We wanted the highest level of comfort possible for the driver of the new sweeper and you can’t beat Volvo for that,” he said. The cab specification is a Globetrotter LXL.
