Mixing a recipe of reliability and driver comfort has helped Scania dealership TruckEast win a new order from expanding family-owned flour millers Whitworth Brothers.

The company previously ran Scania P Series vehicles, but following a unanimous driver vote Whitworth ordered seven 6x2 G-Series rigids with sleeper cabs from the Wellingborough based dealership. The G Series offers a much larger cab space, with high standing room and extra storage lockers.

The 26-tonne rigids will operate out of Whitworth’s Wellingborough site, transporting palletised finished flour product to customers nationwide.

Colin Spurrier, regional distribution manager at Whitworth Brothers, said: “Driver comfort is important to us, and the drivers love the Scania fleet. When it came to renewing the existing models, we had a driver forum and they wanted to keep the Scanias.

"Not only are they comfortable but their reliability is second to none, and are simply the right vehicle for the job.”

The new trucks are powered by a 5-cylinder, 9-litre SCR engine delivering 320hp and partnered with Scania’s two-pedal opticruise transmission.

Whitworth has also ordered a quartet of 6x2 Highlines, following a business acquisition in Worksop increased demand for tractor units. These units will come equipped with Gardner Denver hydraulic powder blowers and tipping equipment fitted by TruckEast’s Specialist Services division.
