Commonly used by local authorities, highways agencies and large industrial complexes, gritter bodied trucks spread measured amounts of rock salt onto roads to clear ice and snow. Often gritter trucks will also have the capability to fit a snow plough. Many gritter bodies are demountable, allowing the chassis cab to be utilised in other roles during the summer months.
