Flagship Volvo FH16 780 joins T Alun Jones

T Alun Jones has replaced a Volvo FH16 750 Ailsa Edition truck with a new FH16 780 6x2 tag axle Globetrotter XL tractor unit. Supplied by Jack Hulse, fleet sales manager at Hartshorne Group, the latest addition to the Welshpool-based fleet is expected to cover 120,000km annually. Working five days a week, the truck will be matched with walking floor and low loader trailers for bulk haulage and machinery deliveries in the UK and Ireland. 

Ian Jones, director at T Alun Jones, said: “We’ve always been selective about the trucks we bring onboard, and this latest Volvo FH16 780 has impressed immediately. Given we were replacing an Ailsa Edition Volvo, we needed something that could match that standard – the new truck’s comfortable and high-spec finish has done just that.

“The support we received from Jack made a massive difference as well. His knowledge and understanding of our needs were top notch – it’s one of the key reasons we felt confident going with Volvo again for this latest order.”

The FH16 is equipped with a 17-litre Euro 6 compliant engine with 780hp and peak torque of 3800Nm. Safety kit includes forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control. 

Inside the Globetrotter XL cab, which also has front air suspension, there’s a coffee machine, microwave, I-Park Cool and heated and suspended driver’s seat. With the Drive+ package there’s additional equipment such as an adjustable steering wheel with neck tilt and dual arm rests. The Living+ package adds more storage, a 33-litre drive and bottle holders. 

Jones added: “We didn’t cut any corners with this one – it’s got everything a driver could want. Our drivers spend a lot of time in their trucks, so comfort and useability are key. We’re confident the FH16 will prove a hard-working addition to our fleet, but also one that enables an enjoyable day’s work.”
