Knowles Logistics has expanded its fleet with a new electric rigid and six DAF tractor units, as it continues its push towards more efficient and lower-emission operations.

The latest addition is a DAF LF Electric, taking the operator’s electric fleet to 11 vehicles. With a range of around 150 miles, it will be deployed on local collection and delivery work, where zero-emission operation can be introduced without disrupting service reliability.

Alongside the EV, the business has taken delivery of six new DAF XG models — four 480hp and two 530hp variants — aimed at long-distance trunking. The 44-tonne units are powered by DAF’s MX-13 engine and are designed to improve fuel efficiency while maintaining performance on higher-mileage work.

The investment reflects a dual approach seen across UK fleets, with electric vehicles handling shorter urban routes while newer diesel models continue to cover trunking operations more efficiently.

Knowles CEO Alex Knowles said the mix of vehicles allows the business to balance sustainability goals with operational demands.

“The electric DAF LF allows us to move more of our collection and delivery activity onto zero-emission vehicles, while the new DAF XG units provide the performance and efficiency required for long-distance work,” he said.

Supplied by Ford & Slater, the new trucks also bring upgraded safety and driver comfort features, including improved visibility systems and enhanced cab specification.
