Since taking part in a field trial of DAF’s new generation models in 2021, Turners has now added 1000 of the latest DAF trucks to its fleet. The 1000th vehicle was an XG 450 FTG which replaced an older vehicle as part of Turners’ fleet replenishment programme. The company runs temperature-controlled transport and tankers as well as offering storage, warehousing and container logistics.
Turners’ new generation DAF fleet includes XB, XD, XF, XG and XG+ models. Its first new generation addition is still in operation with over 600,000km on the clock so far. Across its fleet of circa 2600 trucks, roughly 60% are DAF-supplied trucks.
Group fleet engineer, Tim King, said, “While DAF continues to produce class-leading trucks, supported by the best dealer network in the industry, we’ll continue our partnership with this particular manufacturer. I think we’re unique in being the only fleet operator to run the complete DAF New Generation range, demonstrating how important the DAF marque is in our fleet.”
By adopting the new generation models, Turners has benefitted from DAF’s latest technology. This includes the truck manufacturer’s corner view system which Turners was one of the first big fleets to deploy. The corner view technology replaces traditional mirrors with in-cab screens designed to improve visibility.
King added: “The latest deliveries have the corner view system with the in-cab-mounted screen providing a much better view right around the corner of the vehicle at the passenger side and it delivers a significant safety benefit.”
Turners works closely with the East Anglian DAF dealer, Chassis Cab which supplied the company’s DAF fleet. DAF first introduced the new generation line up in 2021, with a claimed 10% improved fuel efficiency and a range of new passive and active safety features to protect drivers, their load and other road users.
